Fun Sites for Everyone

Harcourt Math

This is the site our math book publisher (Harcourt) has made for us.

The Password is any one of the author's names, found on the book's spine or title page.
Once you enter the password you won't have to do it again.

The site offers a wonderful way to practice timed tests of addition, subtraction, multiplication or division--click That's a Fact to get started.

Brain Pop

Thanks to the PTA for purchasing the subscription for us!

This website is fantastic! We have a school membership that you can use at home--but please do not share this with family or friends that don't attend Paradise Canyon.

The username is our school's acronym and the password is the district's acronym. The site is searchable by topic and presented as a movie with captivating graphics and a clear style. There is a quiz at the end of each video that can be printed, re-taken and reviewed. It is a phenomenal tool.

Growing with Technology

This site has a simple keyboarding program that is easy and short enough to be used by Kindergarten age students. There are other activities including a word processing, database, internet search. This site is exceptional and it has no pop-ups (so far)!

Fun School

This website has lots of advertising and pop-ups. It also has lots of great games that teach. I find that the site is especially helpful for grades Pre-K through 2 for reinforcing key concepts and strengthening hand eye coordination. Specific spots on fun school are listed by grade level below.

Jan Brett's Website

Just before winter break we explore this website in grades K-2. It is an awkward site with a long list of what it offers and links, and it's not user friendly for those who don't read. However, with some direction your child will enjoy beautiful pictures, great printable activity ideas and crafts, as well as some enjoyable interactive games. We visit this site when the kindergarteners read The Mitten.
(Hint: look under "I" for interactive games)

Make a Snowflake

This is my favorite website any time of year.

It is entertaining for all ages, but best for grades 3 and up--because it takes lots of hand eye coordination. When you're done making your own snowflakes go to the gallery and look at some of the stunning work others have submitted.

Crayola Website

Discovery Kids

We don't use these sites at school because some activities require names or registration. At home, however, it would be easier to use and provide hours of opportunities for creative learning.

Twenty Questions

You will be amazed to see this computer work because It can read your mind! Fun for all ages.

Tangram Puzzles at PBS Kids

PBS Kids is one of the best and safest websites for children. This link opens up the website beginning at the tangram page. Use links (home, more games, etc.) to explore the rest of this excellent site.

Dictionary

It's easier than ever to send a child to the dictionary to look up a word. I like this site because it includes etymologies. You can sign up for a paid "word-of-the-day" service, which is a great teaching tool. The thesaurus link is also helpful.

Primary Grades

Learn to Read -- I can't praise this site enough
