Purpose: To learn how to measure speed and distance.
Before the video:
1. The variable speed allows a plane and a train to travel the same
distance in different lengths of time.
a. What is the relationship between distance, time, and speed?
2. As you
watch the program, note the speed, acceleration, and stopping distanace
of the various moving objects. Pay attention to how and why
these factors increase or decrease. Focus on the graphs
After the video:
3. Speed equals
distance divided by time. If you increase or decrease one of the
variables, how are the other two affected?
4. One graph
paper construct a position-time graph for the data set on the board answer
the following questions.
a. Is the object represented on the graph moving with constant speed
or constant acceleration?
b. From the graph constructed, calculate the object's speed at
three-second intervals. Then use this information to construct a
speed - time graph for the object.
