1 Course description: We will be following the Modern World History-Social Science State Standards. In this course students examine major turning points in shaping the modern world, from the 18th century to the present. The focus will be on the development of democracy and how democracy is introduced and preserved from the early Greeks to the modern world.

Textbook: Modern World History: Patterns of Interaction.
The textbook should be covered by tomorrow.
Please do not use newspaper cover or the sticky cover.
Spiral Notebook with pockets
Computer paper (with holes are ok)
Pens and pencils / Color pencils /

3 Students requirements
A. Attendance: Students may be dismissed from Summer School for
excessive absenteeism. The maximum number of days a student may be
absent from class for any cause, and be permitted to continue in school
is 3 days.
B. Tardies:
Students who arrive in class no later than 5 minutes after the beginning
of the class will be counted tardy. Four (4) tardies shall equal
one day of absence and become a part of the maximum allowable absences.
Students who arrive to class later than 15 minutes will be counted absent
for purposes of maximum allowable absences.
C. Focus: Student need to maintain pace with the required reading assignments. It is wise to do your homework daily so the work will not pile up on you later on. When you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and be ready to take the test when they are given in class.

Student are to keep a spiral with pockets.
4 Homework Policy: student will be held to do all assignment work on time; reading and writing will be required on a daily basis. Remember that homework is due on specific days and will be checked off on that day. Late homework assignments will not be accepted. Make up work is at the discretion of the teacher.
5 Make-Up Policy: As a general rule, make up work such as tests, quizzes, project assignments is not accepted during the Summer School session.
6. Tests and Quizzes: Student should be prepared to take regular multiple choice test. Quizzes will be given when deemed necessary to obtain information as to students understanding of the topic. There will be a final exam at the end of the six week session.
7. Grading Policy:
90% and above A
79.5% to 89.4% B
69.5% to 79.4% C
59.5% to 69.4% D
59.4.% and below F
Oral participation during class time will influence your final grade. Due to time constraints, extra credit will not be used.
8. Topics Covered: We will be following the state standards supporting the thesis of the introduction and preservation of democracy in the world. (See state standard site)
9. Students Conduct
in Class: Student conduct will conform to the rules of La Canada
High School Handbook.. Inappropriate behavior during group work,
lectures/video/discussion will not be tolerated. Repeat offenders
may lose their privilege to be in this summer school class.
