Bernoulli's Principle

    Pressure and Moving Fluids
        Fluid Motion
flows from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure

        Bernoulli's Principle
1700s, Swiss scientist Daniel Bernoulli discovered that pressure of a moving fluid is different than the pressure of a fluid at rest

Bernoulli's Principle as the speed of a moving fluid increases, the pressure exerted  by the fluid decreases

___________Bernoulli’s principle states that the faster a fluid mores, the more pressure the fluid exerts.

___________  Blowing air quickly between two cans raises the air pressure between them.

    Applying Bernoulli's Principle

        Objects in Flight
                    design of wing produces lift
(creating lower pressure over the wing and higher pressure underneath)

_____________  The sum of the air pressure above and below an airplane wing creates lift.

lift upward force

___________  The Wright brothers used fluid pressures and unbalanced forces to fly the first airplane

        Atomizers (figure 18 p. 440)
squeezing the bulb causes air to move across the top of the tube, a higher pressure is created in the flask, the fluid flows up through the tube.

 Chimneys(figure 19 p.  440)
                    hot air rises
                            it's hot
                            it's pushed

air moves above the chimney creating low pressure
air pressure difference causes the smoke to move up through te chimney.

           Flying Disks  (figure 20  p. 441
                    very similar to planes
                        curved upper surface creates lift

______________The shape of an object can cause air to move more or less quickly above or below it?
