Dear Journal,

It is the last day of 1864.  Tomorrow the war will enter its fourth year. Tell about the recent Sherman’s March (Student Guide, p. 18 & 19)  – what it was, why it was done, how it affected you/your opinions.  Tell how things have changed at your home situation and you as a person since 1861.  Tell about what you have heard from your loved one (field identity) since the beginning of the war. Give your opinion of what lies ahead.

Sincerely,

Home Identity

Appomattox Court House, Virginia

Dear Diary,

You are there (Student Guide, p. 19 & 20) as your field identity.  Tell in detail what happens.  How do you feel?  What is going to happen to you next?  How do you expect to find things and attitudes when you return home?

Good-by,

Field Identity
